I must be crazy. I did it. I actually signed up. I was gonna DO it, of course; just from the comfort of my own computer and no tallies and accountability and stuff. I wasn’t going to bother with making it official. Then I got excited and sort of accidentally signed up.
I’m talking about NaNoWriMo, of course. I went and signed up to the official site (come and see me and be my writing buddy–WRGingell is my Buddy Name); title and everything. Soon there’ll even be a cover for THE FIRST CHILL OF AUTUMN, my NaNoWriMo novella.

I did all this before it occurred to me that I would be at the stage of editing FIRE IN THE BLOOD at the same time as writing my NaNoWriMo novella…
It helps that they’re in the same trilogy (2nd and 3rd, respectively), but I’m still trying to tell myself, like Jones from Dad’s Army, “DON’T PANIC! DON’T PANIC!”
I’ll most likely end up in a frothing, quivering heap by the end of the month, but what’s that between friends? It’s all good fun, and let’s face it, I only have to write 1667 words per day. I’ve been routinely doing more than that each day for the last month or two. There’s absolutely no need to panic.
But what would a writer be without a side-serving of worry, eh?
Hahahaha you’ll be fine! (A little nutty by the end of it all but fine!)

Thanks, Harriet 🙂 I’ve only just gotten to the point where I think I may be ready for it, so we’ll see… 1000 words a day used to be my absolute maximum, but over the last few months I’ve been writing anywhere from 1000-3000 per day, so I thought I’d strike while the iron is hot. We shall see…
But if you didn’t actually sign up, you wouldn’t have access to the little widget that shows how many words you’ve written and how far you have left to go, or to the bar graph that shows your daily wordcount progress. (It’s the highlight of my November days, plugging my count into the site and getting to see that upward progress. Yes, my life is that dull.)
My first year, I stressed so much about finishing that I wrote the whole book in three weeks. You’ll be fine. 😀

I’m being a bit slow with FIRE IN THE BLOOD, hence my worry (Rafiq is being uncommunicative and Kako is being secretive, and neither of them will talk about the things they need to be talking about, grrr!) On the other hand, I think a few of my problems come from the fact that I’m having so many ideas for my NaNoWriMo novella that it’s kinda taking over….
At all events, despite my fears, I’m really very much looking forward to it 🙂

I’ve had it on my To-Do List for the past 2-3 weeks to re-register using my grown-up name. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. But I’ll come find you when I do! 😀

In the meantime, good luck on your current project! Characters who don’t cooperate during the writing process are the usually most fun to read in the end result. And you can’t really blame them for sulking if you’ve been focusing your attention elsewhere, right? 😉

Had a young pastor once visit us, whose email account was something like MadDogJonny. I was sad when the older, stiffer patriarchal types prevailed upon him to change it.
You know, I usually DO like my stubborn, go-their-own-way character best, but these guys are close to getting the stink-eye 😀
